Tesamorelin vs ipamorelin: what is the difference?

Research context reviewed 16 October 2026

Both are studied for growth-hormone release, but they use different signals. Tesamorelin mimics growth hormone-releasing hormone, or GHRH. Ipamorelin acts through a different growth-hormone-releasing peptide signalling route. They are not two strengths of the same compound.

That is the buying distinction. If your research compares the two routes, one peptide does not supply both. Compare tesamorelin 10 mg or 20 mg with ipamorelin 10 mg: separate products, not a premixed pair.

What does tesamorelin do in the research?

Tesamorelin is a modified, 44-amino-acid version of GHRH. Researchers investigate how that modification changes the peptide's breakdown and growth-hormone-release activity.

In Ferdinandi and colleagues' 2007 study, the compound, called TH9507, broke down more slowly than natural GHRH in rat, dog and human plasma samples. In separate animal experiments, growth hormone and IGF-1 increased in pigs, rats and dogs. IGF-1 is a growth-related signal measured alongside growth hormone.

The human-plasma experiment was not a trial in people. These findings explain the research interest in the modified GHRH signal; they do not establish what a commercial vial will do for a customer.

What does ipamorelin do differently?

Ipamorelin is a five-amino-acid peptide that acts through a GHRP-like route rather than the GHRH route. Raun and colleagues' 1998 study distinguished those signals in cell and animal experiments; the ipamorelin signalling and blend guide gives the fuller breakdown.

Same broad research area. Different way of triggering a signal. Neither paper here compared ipamorelin directly with tesamorelin, so they cannot tell you which is “stronger”.

Within tesamorelin, compare equal amounts: one 20 mg vial costs A$189.99, versus A$219.98 for two 10 mg vials. That is A$29.99 less, about 13.6% less per labelled mg. The 10 mg option costs less upfront; two 10 mg vials give you two separately sealed containers.

There is also a document distinction: the linked tesamorelin supplier PDF lists 5 mg and 10 mg, not 20 mg. Do not assume it verifies the 20 mg strength. Both the tesamorelin and ipamorelin PDFs describe themselves as reference templates for customer consultation; neither establishes a tested-sample link to current stock.

A 20 mg tesamorelin vial has twice the labelled tesamorelin amount of a 10 mg tesamorelin vial. It does not mean twice the effect of ipamorelin. Milligrams measure material, not a ranking of different peptides.

The 3 mL figure describes the container, not a supplied liquid concentration or an instruction to add that much liquid. BAC Water is not included.

Which listing fits your research?

  • Need the modified GHRH compound? Tesamorelin 10 mg costs less upfront. Tesamorelin 20 mg costs less per labelled mg at the prices above. Weigh the amount, number of sealed vials and report scope together.
  • Need ipamorelin without another peptide? View ipamorelin 10 mg. It is the lower upfront purchase here, but not a replacement for tesamorelin in a method that specifies that compound.
  • Need both as separate research materials? Compare the two listings independently. Separate vials preserve that choice; they do not establish a combined effect or a mixing method. Neither study cited here tested the pair together.

Match the named compound, labelled amount and report scope before relying on a result. The laboratory-report guide explains the checks without turning a printed percentage into a promise about every vial.
