NAD+ vs NMN vs NR: what are you actually buying?
Research context reviewed 11 October 2026NAD+ is the coenzyme. NMN and NR are different molecules that cells can use to make it. They share a pathway, but they are not interchangeable research materials.
PEPTALIAS's public catalogue lists NAD+, not NMN or NR. If your experiment specifies a precursor, source that exact compound. If it specifies NAD+, compare our 500 mg and 1000 mg research vials.
At the prices checked on 11 October 2026, the 1000 mg vial costs about 25% less per labelled mg than the 500 mg vial. The smaller vial costs less upfront. Here is how the compounds differ, and how the two NAD+ listings compare.
NAD+, NMN and NR: three names, three compounds
| Name | Full name | Research role |
|---|---|---|
| NAD+ | Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide | A coenzyme that carries electrons between reactions and is used by several enzyme families |
| NMN | Nicotinamide mononucleotide | An intermediate in NAD+ synthesis |
| NR | Nicotinamide riboside | A precursor that can be converted to NMN and then NAD+ |
“Precursor” means a starting material used to make another molecule. It does not mean the same product under a different name. NR can become NMN, and NMN can become NAD+, but you are buying a different compound at each step. Original pathway research.
For a study of NAD+ formation, the precursor may be the material of interest. For an assay that specifies NAD+ itself, a precursor is not a like-for-like replacement. Follow the compound named in the method.
What does NAD+ actually do?
NAD+ helps carry electrons between chemical reactions in cells. That makes it part of the chemistry behind energy metabolism. NAD+ chemical record.
It is also used by enzymes such as sirtuins and PARPs, which researchers investigate in cell regulation and DNA-repair pathways. The introduction to Ratajczak et al.'s 2016 study explains these roles before examining how cells make NAD+ from precursors.
In that study, researchers used mammalian cells, genetically modified mice and isotope-labelled compounds. In the systems they tested, NMN supplied outside cells was converted to NR before cellular uptake and NAD+ synthesis. That finding explains a pathway; it does not rank retail products or establish what a PEPTALIAS vial will do in a person.
For a different research question, our MOTS-c vs SS-31 guide compares mitochondrial signalling with membrane behaviour. Those peptides are different materials, not substitutes for NAD+.
Is NAD+ a peptide?
No. NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme, not a chain of amino acids. PEPTALIAS lists it under research compounds. Being sold alongside peptides does not make it a peptide.
Is NADH the same as NAD+?
No. NAD+ is the oxidised form; NADH is the reduced form. The two participate in electron-transfer chemistry, but a method that specifies one does not automatically call for the other. Check the full name, not just the letters “NAD”. NAD+ record; NADH record.
NAD+ 500 mg vs 1000 mg: compare the purchase, not just the price
Both PEPTALIAS listings are for NAD+. The labelled amount, supplied container and price differ.
| Selected listing | Supplied vial size | Sale price per vial | Cost per labelled mg |
|---|---|---|---|
| NAD+ 500 mg | 5 mL | A$55.99 | About A$0.112 |
| NAD+ 1000 mg | 10 mL | A$83.99 | About A$0.084 |
Prices checked 11 October 2026, with the displayed 30% sale already included. Figures exclude shipping and any additional voucher. Check the selected product page for current pricing and availability.
One 1000 mg vial costs A$83.99. Two 500 mg vials cost A$111.98 for the same total labelled amount. One 1000 mg vial therefore costs A$27.99 less, about 25% less per labelled mg.
Choose the 500 mg listing for a smaller purchase and lower upfront price. Compare the 1000 mg listing when your research requires that quantity and unit cost matters. A larger labelled amount does not prove better quality.
The 5 mL and 10 mL descriptions identify the supplied containers. They do not state a ready-made solution concentration or instruct you to add that much liquid. BAC Water is not included; it is listed separately as a laboratory supply. Use only the materials specified by your research method.
Three checks before buying NAD+ in Australia
- Match the molecule. NAD+, NADH, NMN and NR are different materials. The listing, label and documentation should identify the same compound.
- Compare equal quantities. A cheaper vial may contain less. Compare the total labelled amount as well as the upfront price.
- Read the report's scope. Check sample identity, methods and results. A report does not automatically establish the contents of every vial or strength. Our laboratory-report guide shows what to look for.
Need NAD+ itself? View the 500 mg vial for the lower upfront price, or compare the 1000 mg vial for lower cost per labelled mg at the prices above. Explore more product comparisons in our research guides.
